Classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as an endangered species, the graceful Eld’s deer (Rucervus eldii) is indigenous to the dry forests of Southeast Asia. However, decades of habitat loss have dramatically reduced its numbers to a point where only small, scattered populations exist across parts of India, Myanmar, China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.
Also, Musk deer is endangered due to the secretions from the scent gland or "pod" of the male musk deer are used in many traditional East Asian medicines to treat a variety of ailments relating to the heart, nerves and breathing. Musk is also used in non-medicinal products such as cosmetics, personal hygiene products, shampoos and detergents.
